Judi Nath, Ph.D. is a professor at Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio. She has a joint appointment in the Department of Biology & Health Sciences and Nurse Anesthesia Program, teaching anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, and medical terminology. She received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Bowling Green State University and her Ph.D. from the University of Toledo. As part of her undergraduate education, she also studied at the University of Salzburg in Austria. Dr. Nath is devoted to her students and strives to convey the intricacies of science in a captivating way that students find meaningful, interactive, and exciting. She is a multiple recipient of the Lourdes University Faculty Excellence Award, granted by the college to recognize her effective teaching, scholarship, and community service. Dr. Nath has also served as Biology Department Chair.
She is active in several professional organizations, including the Human Anatomy & Physiology Society (HAPS), where she has served several terms on the board of directors. Dr. Nath also holds professional memberships in the American Association of Anatomists (AAA), the Society for College Science Teaching, and the National Science Teachers Association. She is the sole author of Using Medical Terminology: A Practical Approach (published by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins), the first book to use a “foreign language and total immersion” approach to teaching medical terminology within the context of applied anatomy and physiology. Dr. Nath has reviewed several textbooks and written ancillary materials, including lecture outlines, PowerPoint presentations, and test banks for anatomy & physiology textbooks.
She is also the co-author of Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology, 8th and 9th editions, Anatomy & Physiology, 2nd edition, Visual Anatomy & Physiology 1e, and Visual Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology 1e (published by Pearson Benjamin Cummings), which are leading undergraduate anatomy & physiology textbooks.
Since grade school, Dr. Nath has been interested in science and writing. In fact, in 5th grade, she wrote 2 "books": Health Booklet and Human Body Organs. Her passions truly are teaching, researching, and writing!
On a personal note, Dr. Nath thoroughly enjoys family life with her husband, Mike, and their three dogs, Bear, Quincy, and Gabbi. Piano playing and bicycling are welcome diversions from authoring and her favorite charities include the local Humane Society, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Real Partners Uganda.
